Collegiate Champions League update

The 2008 Philippine Collegiate Championship games, a joint project of BAP-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL), is a multi-level nationwide competition that will involve more than 200 collegiate teams.

The first level is the competition in various “mother leagues” in cities and provinces. Winners of these “mother leagues” advance to the second phase, the regional championships which will determine the regional area champions that will advance to the third phase, the zonal championships.

In the zonal competitions, all regional champions and other qualifiers are grouped into four zones as follows: Zone 1 – champions of regional areas 1 & 2, NCAA 4th placer, “wild card” team, and host school team; Zone 2 – champion of regional area 3, South NCAA champion, UAAP 4th placer, two “wild card” teams, and host school team; Zone 3 – champions of regional area 4, 5 & 6, CESAFI runner-up, NCAA 3rd placer and host school team; and Zone 4 – champions of regional areas 7, 8 & 9, UAAP 3rd placer, CESAFI 3rd placer, and host school team.

The three wild card slots in the zonal competitions (Zone 1 & 2) will be disputed by the runner-up and third placer teams of Metro Manila leagues such as the NAASCU, CUSA and UCAA.

The top two teams of each zone will advance to the “Sweet 16” Final Challenge which is the last stage in the road to the collegiate championship.
