Collegiate Champions League update

All the major collegiate leagues in Metro Manila have been informed about the 2008 Philippine Collegiate Championship games, a joint project of BAP-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL).

Discussions were held with board members and key league officials of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), National Athletic Association of Schools & Universities (NAASCU) and NCAA-South. Other leagues such as the Colleges & Universities Sports Association (CUSA) and the Universities & Colleges Athletic Association (UCAA) were provided with details of the tournament.

There are about 59 collegiate teams in Metro Manila that are qualified to participate in this year’s search for the best collegiate team in the country. The top two teams of the UAAP and NCAA and the champion teams of NAASCU, CUSA and UCAA are automatically seeded in the “Sweet 16” Final Challenge, which is the last stage in the road to the collegiate championship.

The champion and runner-up teams of NCAA-South and the 3rd & 4th placers of UAAP and NCAA will have to pass thru the zonal championships and compete with the regional champions to earn seats in the elite “Sweet 16.”
