2009 Philippine Collegiate Championship Games
The Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) search for the best collegiate teams for the season is now on its sixth year. At the end of the current collegiate basketball season, the 2009 National Collegiate Champion will be crowned and the school represented by the champion team will hold for one year the Manuel V. Pangilinan Perpetual Bronze Sculpture, “Abutin Ang Tagumpay.” Scholarship grants and other prizes for the members of the winning teams are also at stake.
Details about the annual nationwide competition for 2009 have been finalized, and PCCL national tournament director, Coach Joe Lipa, will be presenting these to the various collegiate leagues all over the country in the following weeks.
The first phase of the nationwide search for the best collegiate teams involves tournaments being conducted by the “mother leagues” in various provinces and cities to determine the teams that will advance to the next levels of competition – the regional championships, the qualifying zonal games, and the “Sweet 16” Finals.
For the 2008 Philippine Collegiate Championship Games, the “Sweet 16” finalists were: De La Salle Green Archers (2008 Champion); Ateneo Blue Eagles (runner-up); Letran Knights (third place); San Beda Red Lions (fourth place); FEU Tamaraws; UE Red Warriors; MIT Cardinals; AU Chiefs; JRU Heavy Bombers; UV Green Lancers; USJ-R Jaguars; SSC-R Baycats; USC Warriors; Lyceum Pirates; MLQU Stallions and UC Dragons.
